The Japanese invasion of Borneo was driven by a number of different objectives.įirst, there were the Seria and Miri oilfields, and the Lutong refinery. The Second World War commenced in Borneo at the end of 1941, after several years of mounting regional tension. These describe the war from the angle of the native population. I gathered verbal records and narratives. My (ongoing) research focusses on areas surrounding Miri, the city I live in. Additional information was added wherever available. I have edited these pieces of text only by little, so that the original flavor remains preserved within the frame of my article. This text combines several articles from the internet and other sources, that provide facts of the war in Sarawak (Borneo) spanning the time from 1941 until 1945.
